Romans 12:1

We’ve been reading through Deuteronomy recently in the Read Scripture plan.  God really, REALLY wanted his beloved Israelites to get to the Promised Land.  But they kept tripping themselves up.  So finally a whole generation of them had to spend the rest of their lives wandering in the wilderness.  They missed out on God’s blessings, His Promised Land, peace.  How did they manage that?

They ignored the fact that God had been taking good care of them all along the way from Egypt to just across the Jordan River.  They worshipped an idol made from their own hands.  They complained loudly and rebelled often.  And they did not believe in God’s promises.

Ouch!  Who among us hasn’t been guilty of at least one of those things?  I may not have made an idol with my own hands, but I sure have placed idols before my Lord and Savior.  I complain plenty.  I have rebelled a time or two.  I have forgotten that God has everything under control, supplying for my every need (Phil 4:19).  I have struggled to believe in God’s promises.  What are we missing out on as a result?

We are not living in His peace, the new Promised Land of peace and security in Jesus!!  We are missing out on the life that He wants for us today (John 10:10)!!  How do we get that peace and the life He wants us to live?  We obey Him “with ALL of our hearts and ALL of our souls” (Deut 30:2).  We turn to Him “with ALL of our hearts and ALL of our souls” (Deut 30:10).  We love Him “with ALL of our hearts and ALL of our souls” (Deut 30:6, Matt 22:37).  We worship Him with all that we have by becoming living sacrifices.

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. (Romans 12:1 ESV)

Today in Prayer
Worship In Thanksgiving: Psalm 95:1-6

  • Pray that you always pray with a thankful heart.
  • Pray that He accepts your worship as an offering of thanksgiving.
  • Pray that you can decrease so He can increase.
  • Pray you are always thankful for what you have because all that you have is from Him.
