Typically when we hear the word stewardship, we think of our money. That is not all that we are to steward, but let’s start there. Did everybody just tighten their grips on their wallets? It’s MY money. I’ve been saving that for x-y-z. I’ve worked hard for my money. I worked hard to get this job that pays me this good money. I studied hard to get good grades, to go to a good school, to get a good degree, to make this good money. I’ve made good choices all along the way, that helped me get this kind of job that pays this kind of money. I make good choices with my money. I’m responsible with my money. Those are all great things, but we’re forgetting how we got here.
God created us (Ephesians 2:10); we didn’t. God chose our parents (Psalm 139:13); we didn’t. Some of us received great guidance from our parents; some didn’t. Some of us made the right choices from very early on; some of us didn’t have any choices available to us. Some of us are very smart; some of us aren’t quite as bright. Some of us have led very blessed lives; some of us have had tragedies to deal with. Some of us think life has been fair; some of us think life is one long miserable experience.
James 1:17 says that “every good gift and every perfect gift is from above.” Read Ephesians 2:10 again. We were “created in Christ Jesus for good works.” God made plans for our lives from the start. Once we accepted Salvation and became God’s adopted sons and daughters, we were supposed to die to ourselves and let Jesus live through us (Galatians 2:20). It’s not our money; it was given to us to steward. Please don’t tip God, as if rewarding Him with a little something for a job well done. Make it a habit to honor Him with the first and best of what He has given you.
- Pray that you will be able to identify when others around you need a moment of your time.
- Pray that you give that needed time to those people and that your gift of time originates from your heart.
- Thank your Heavenly Creator for giving you time on earth to be able to bless and glorify Him, by blessing others with your time.
“It is more blessed to give than to receive.” ~ Jesus Christ
